Reusable Cleaning Wipes
Cleaning Wipes are awesome, especially in the kitchen. They are handy for cleaning up quick messes.
I love the idea of having reusable cleaning wipes, and not creating so much waste. Now for really dirty or icky messes, I will still use disposable wipes, but for wiping down the table or microwave these work great! Here the Steps to make some for your home.
*(I purchased all items and have no affiliation with Amazon, Walmart, or Dr. Bronners)
MATERIALS:
Glass jar (I got this one from Walmart)
Pinking Shears *Optional (Amazon)
Clean old T-Shirts, or cotton fabric (From my Son)
Dr. Bronners Liquid Castille Soap (Amazon, Walmart, or any Grocery Store that sells natural products)
Essential Oils (I used Lavender and Lemon Essential oils)
Pinking shears cut the fabric edges without fraying, and that keeps you from needing to hem your fabric because the fabric won't fray around the edges.
STEPS: I cut squares approx 10 x 10 inches from clean old T-shirts or use this diagram to cut even squares, or cut them smaller to your preference.
Now that you have your wipes cut, get a glass container. Make sure to use glass because essential oils degrade plastics. I used regular stick-on letters to label the jar. For a waterproof option make sure you use vinyl adhesive letters.
In the glass container mix 2 CUPS of water, 1 TABLESPOON Dr. Bronners Liquid Castille Soap(Unscented or the scent of your preference), 20 DROPS ESSENTIAL OIL. I used 10 drops of Lavendar, 10 drops of Lemon essential oils. Both of these oils have surface cleansing properties. Next, close the lid and shake to mix.
Finally, open the lid and add the cloths to the jar a few at a time until there is no more liquid to saturate them. I like mine to be moist and not oversaturated. The surface you are cleaning will dry quicker that way. If you have too much liquid on the wipe, you could always squeeze any excess into the jar with the remaining wipes.
Keep them on your counter and now you have at the ready non-toxic cleaning wipes. Castille soap as well as lemon, and lavender essential oils are all antibacterial. This mixture is good for general cleaning, however, for antiviral cleaning, you will need to use traditional disposable wipes or cleaner.
After I use them, I just hang them somewhere to dry and throw them in the next load of laundry. I put aside the cleaned reusable wipes until I have used the whole batch of cleaning wipes. I take the cleaned reusable wipes and mix another batch of the cleaning mixture and repeat the process.
There you have it! Quick, Simple, and Reusable Wipes.
